Small Space
Transformation |
|
BEFORE:
This house was beautiful new
construction and elegant inside, but the lot was small and pretty
much a blank slate. There was an existing boulder retaining
wall along the back and a 6 foot fence that had to stay.
The homeowners wanted to
create some privacy from the neighbors, as well as a new space for
entertaining. |
|

Before: The
small yard was very plain, and the space was dominated by the
neighbor's house. |

Before: A very small
concrete patio hugged the house, and had little or no room for
barbecuing and entertaining. |
|
AFTER: |
"Pat--Thanks for all your hard work and great
landscaping ideas + design! The backyard
continues to grow
and looks great." --D.R., Portland

After:
The homeowners took a leap of
faith and agreed to go with an angled layout that I had designed.
This opened up the small space and created new longer site lines and
an interesting feel. There's now much more room for outdoor
entertaining. |

the unit
and muffles the sound. |

The beautifully crafted
triangular pergola is the feature that helps to create the feeling
of privacy. As the
plantings grow in, including some 'Little Gem' magnolias, a
beautiful dark pink crape
myrtle,
and
a red-leaved 'Fireglow' Japanese maple, the garden retreat sense will increase.
