GARDEN DETAILS |

When a garden is being designed,
I have to pay attention to all of the larger issues that determine
how the space is going to be filled, such as deciding where the
patio and paths will go, what types of plants are appropriate and
where they will be located. I also note the wishes of the homeowners, as well
as the limitations of the site in terms of soil types, sun & shade,
and privacy or space issues. |
|
I really enjoy figuring out all
of these things, and working with you to make sure that the new
spaces when they are built just "feel right".
But when all this is finished, it
is the final touches or Garden Details that really make the
space come alive and that personalize it for you. These details
include the types of materials used, whether stone or brick,
decking, lawn, etc. as well as the structures that may be built.
Lastly, the finer pieces such as water features, container
plantings, outdoor lighting, and garden art can really finish off
the space.
Please browse through my gallery
of Garden Details to see how they can improve a garden:

Plant Combinations:
Pleasing varieties of foliage &
flowers |
|

Purple/gold foliage:
Hosta, Purple Smoke Tree,
& Lonicera 'Lemon Beauty'

A striking New Zealand flax
echoes the brick tones
of the house, and accents the entrance path |

'Knockout' roses combine with 'Rozanne'
hardy geraniums
and Carex oshimensis 'Evergold'

Garden Structures: |

I designed this
free-standing trellis for the front courtyard of a
Mediterranean-style
home. It delineates the courtyard while echoing the shape and color
of the front door.
'Yuletide' sasanqua camellias are espaliered on the trellis and provide
wintertime interest. |
|

I designed this "window" in the
privacy screen
around a hot tub to have a view of a
specimen 'Seiryu' Japanese maple |

Patio paving detail: squares at
the side of the
patio are spaced apart with a low
groundcover to fill in for a softer
edge look |
|

"I just wanted to tell you how much we love the designs that you
showed us. It is clear that you
got a real feel for our house and the area. Thanks for all
of the creative thought that went
into the plans. Just wonderful!"
